The Heart Truth® Red Dress Collection kicks off New York Fashion Week tonight! This annual NYFW celebration brings celebrities, the fashion industry and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) together, in hopes of raising heart health awareness.
In 2002, NHLBI collaborated with some of America’s top fashion designers in hopes of reaching its vast female audience. Since then, the red dress has become recognized as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness.
This year’s show will feature Alison Sweeney in Tadashi Shoji, Ann Curry in Carmen Marc Valvo, Archie Panjabi in J. Mendel, Audrina Patridge in Badgley Mischka, Camila Alvesin Kaufman Franco, Cat Deeley in Alberta Ferretti, Dania Ramirez in Catherine Malandrino, Denise Richards in Matthew Williamson, Dita Von Teese in Zac Posen, Eva Amurri in Chris Benz, Eve in David Meister, Garcelle Beauvais in Monique Lhuiller, Gayle King in Donna Karan, Giuliana Rancic in Notte by Marchesa, Julianne Hough in Swarovski, Katrina Bowden in Oscar de la Renta, Laila Ali in A Pea in the Pod, Linda Gray in Pamella Roland, Natasha Bedingfield in Nicole Miller, Patti LaBelle in Zang Toi, Suzanne Somers in Ina Soltani, and Taraji P. Henson in Naeem Khan.
The dresses were all donated and will be auctioned off @ clothesoffourback.org (open to the public, ends March 4, 2011). The proceeds from the sales will help support women’s heart health awareness and research.
What a commendable way to start off NYFW! This campaign might even turn this fashionista’s cold & black heart, red again.
